Matthew Gatto

One of a kind. Once in a lifetime.

Matt Gatto is a sculptor and furniture maker living and working in Pittsburgh Pa. Born in 1983 he has been involved in art in many forms since he was very young. He attended Slippery Rock University and received a Bachelor of Arts in technical theatre and design with a minor in studio arts in 2005. His work has been exhibited in galleries and events throughout Pittsburgh. In 2012 he was elected to the governing board of the society of sculptors Pittsburgh chapter. He has a great deal of interest in many different areas of art including sculpture, two and three dimensional design, product design, lighting, and furniture. Due in part to his educational background he is fascinated with the ability of light to evoke emotion, alter space and perception. Found objects play an important role in the creation of his work as both a source of inspiration and a way to solve problems. He is fascinated in the philosophical implications of transforming discarded objects into something of both use and value. He is passionate about meshing together the world of high art and functional art to redefining the role of art in our everyday lives.
